Exhibition design for [Unlearning Language]

Dismantling Understanding

As part of the ongoing "Walled Garden" project by YCAM, SUNAKI designed the exhibition space for the "Lauren Lee McCarthy & Kyle McDonald: Unlearning Language" exhibition. The Walled Garden project aims to explore the interplay between open dialogue and closed systems through technology. "Unlearning Language" examines the possibilities and limitations of communication through language, presenting works that explore the relationship between technology and dialogue.
SUNAKI created a spatial experience by using large mesh tarpaulin partitions in the foyer to organically divide the space and establish a linear flow. This design encourages viewers to engage with the artworks from different perspectives as they move through the exhibition, gradually understanding the theme of the Walled Garden project. The design aims to deepen the interaction between the audience and the artworks, facilitating an experience of "unlearning" and progressively challenging the conventional framework of language.

YCAMが継続的に行っている鎖国 [Walled Garden] プロジェクトの一環で開催された「ローレン・リー・マッカーシー カイル・マクドナルド アンラーニング・ランゲージ」展において空間デザインを担当した。鎖国 [Walled Garden] プロジェクトは、テクノロジーを通じて閉じられたシステムとオープンな対話の可能性を探求することを目的としている。「アンラーニング・ランゲージ」は、言語を通じたコミュニケーションの可能性と限界に焦点を当て、テクノロジーと対話の関係性を探る作品群で構成されている。
ホワイエ空間にはメッシュターポリンを使用した大きな間仕切りを配置し、導線を単線的に設定することで、鑑賞者が展示を通じて徐々に鎖国 [Walled Garden] プロジェクトのテーマを理解していけるような空間体験を企図している。
